WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN SCHOOL?
A Christian school is a school that upholds the philosophy of Christ Jesus. Philosophy defined is “the love of wisdom.” Wisdom is the correct application of knowledge – knowledge based on truth is God’s order.
WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN EDUCATION?
A Christian education is an education that implements and teaches from a biblical worldview, instilling Godly principles and relating Godly principles to all aspects of life and all subject matter.
WHAT IS CLASSICAL EDUCATION?
Classical education is a method of teaching and learning literature, language, and history through the Liberal Arts divided into what is known as the Trivium. The classical approach, Trivium, is divided into three phases of learning; grammar, logic and rhetoric. Each of these three phases capitalizes on a student’s developmental stage and how well students fundamentally learn at each stage. The grammar phase is memorizing through songs, learning by heart and jingles, the dialectic phase questions the “why” of something, and the rhetoric phase is persuasive speaking and effective writing.
TRIVIUM
The TRIVIUM is a method of teaching and learning that seeks after truth through the study of the Liberal Arts. It consists of three phases; grammar, dialectic and rhetoric. Broken into three phases, essentially, each stage teaches how to learn and learning how to think. It adopts an understanding of how the past informs the present through Liberal Arts.
Grammar/Input – Grades K-5 directs factual foundational knowledge; children naturally learn by heart; parroting, mirroring, singing/chanting, memorizing, recitation/drills, show and tell, and repetition. At this foundational stage everything may not be fully understood but the exposure is there and, most importantly, easily remembered.
Dialectic/Processing – Grades 6-8 directs processing knowledge; the correct application of knowledge; seeks understanding, naturally argumentative; thinks out loud, critical thinkers, puts grammar and vocabulary into practice expressively and creatively.
Rhetoric/Output – Grades 9-12 directs effective communication; passionate about current events, idealistic, critiques, debates, analyze critically, intuitively put the art of arguing one’s views persuasively.
TRIVIUM BENEFITS
- Teaches to make learning challenging and enjoyable.
- Teaches for understanding and comprehension.
- Makes learning relevant.
- Lends to obtaining early literacy.
- Supports the ability to connect the dots – think with clarity and decisiveness.
- Promotes decision making; ability to apply knowledge.
- Creates building blocks for more advanced writing, reading, grammar, vocabulary comprehension and retention.
- Students are taught principles and basic rules then builds knowledge and understanding upon them.
WHY CLASSICAL?
A classical education results in a well-trained mind. The Classical approach teaches students the proper tools of learning. It is an outstanding foundation for a well-trained mind. The greatest test of our student’s comprehension and knowledge will be their ability to transfer what they know competently and clearly. It’s never too early to instill the proper tools for organized thinking. Therefore, AECA begins the classical method purposefully at the preschool level.
Moreover, we know that all wisdom based on truth comes from God. Our program essentially unites godly truth and godly love in all subject matter. We believe children must learn that they should not do anything apart from God; their joy, strength, and contentment in life is based entirely on their relationship with God. AECA teaches children to be independent thinkers who exemplify the fruits of the spirit.
Simply put, we want what God wants. We want our students to fear the Lord, crown Him Lord of their lives, walk in all His ways and love Him. We want them to serve the Lord with all their heart and soul to live out their God given potential, abilities and purpose. We want our students to THINK and to OWN their thoughts.
We believe our preschool is a place where children will be taught to observe and live by Christian morals and values, glorify and honor God, be who God says they are within their homes, communities and the world. We believe that parents are the primary teachers in their children’s lives. AECA is an extension to the Godly principles, morals and values that is displayed within the home.
Deuteronomy 10:12 New Life Version (NLV)
12 “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you? He wants you to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him. He wants you to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul. Deuteronomy 11:19 New International Version (NIV) 18 “Keep these words of mine in your heart and in your soul. Tie them as something special to see upon your hand and on your forehead between your eyes.19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
